At Home Face Mask

After the success of my At Home Nose Pore Strips, I decided to test to see what an egg could do for my entire face. I found an egg and honey face mask recipe and decided to try it out! Total time was only 20 minutes including prep and clean-up. Confused about what to do with the extra egg yolks? Here are some different recipes for you to try.

After Applying the mask.

30 seconds: My neck is crazy sticky and I cannot look down. Additionally some of the honey is rolling down the neck. I applied too much!

2 minutes: I can feel my pores tightening now that it is starting to dry on my face.

7 minutes: My skin is feeling really tight. The smell of honey is a little overpowering at this point.

15 minutes: Time to take off the mask! It comes off easy with warm water and a washcloth.

25 minutes: My skin feels really smooth and clean. The honey didn’t leave a residue on my skin and all my blackheads are gone.

24 hours: I skipped my nighttime facial schedule to see if the effects would last.My skin still feels really soft and clean still.  I would definitely use this mask again in the future.

At Home Nose Pore Strips

It is easy to overspend on beauty products especially if it is a staple in your daily routine. On the other side of the spectrum, if you need a product at a moment’s notice many people find themselves at a local convenience store willing to pay for an overpriced bottle without  knowing if it will work or not.Instead of rushing to the local Walgreens, I decided to try a last-minute at home beauty hack I found on Pinterest to get rid of blackheads and surprisingly it worked!

Supplies: Egg, Paper towel, Scissors, timer and pen/pencil

Step 1: Separate the egg white and egg yolk. Discard the yolk.

Step 2: Draw on the paper towel the outline of your strip.

Step 3: Cut out your strip.

Step 4: Lightly dunk  strip in egg white. If it is too wet it will take a lot longer to dry.

Step 5: Place on your nose. Be sure to have it fit firmly against your skin and near the creases of your nostrils.

Step 6: Wait 10-15 minutes (when the strip is entirely dry) before removing starting at the sides and ending in the middle. The sides will dry faster than the part on your nose bridge, make sure the bridge is dry too. Remove access residue with wet washcloth.

Smells of the Holidays

I recently received an amazing tester kit from Arbonne that featured some of their Holiday line. Here is what I  thought about the items.

Pampermint Foot Cream: The moment I opened the lid I could smell the peppermint. Once on my feet, the scent lasted over an hour. This is definitely being added to my spa Pedicure set for the fall. This bottle is small enough for me to take on flights! The full size item is over 8 fluid ounces.

Merriment Hand Creme: It smelled exactly like the foot cream! No worries about mixing conflicting smells here. Now my pedicures and manicures will match. My hands felt smooth for hours. The pump made it convenient for application. I will definitely put this in the guest bathroom.

Fig Blossom Shower Gel: It smelled light and airy. It was super smooth going onto my skin.    I did not smell too sweet or too fruity. The smell lasts for a couple hours. I received many compliments about my perfume while I was in class. I am sorry this was not full size and only a tester, I would love to use this all winter long. That means I just need to buy the larger version now.

Star of Wonder Body Scrub: I am not 100% positive what the smells are in this one, but I do detect coconut, vanilla,  and maybe some cinnamon. It felt so good on my skin in the shower. It was a glorious at home massage.

Charcoal EyeLiner: The color itself is a medium blue gray. I was a little timid to put this on my eyes because blue is such an abnormally bright color for me compared to normal brown neutrals.

There full Holiday line is here. Items are only available if they are in stock (no backorders).

30-minute Foot Spa

Screen Shot 2016-10-30 at 10.29.46 PM.png

Once it starts cooling down, I put away all my pretty sandals and take out my boots and warm socks. It seems like the only downside to transitioning footwear is the wear and tear my feet go through after being stuck inside the shoes for hours. A great way to relieve stress and bring your feet back to life is to pamper them!

  1. Fill your tub with hot water (hot enough to make your toes pink, but don’t burn them). Add your favorite bathsalts and bubble bath (or add shower gel and mix with spoon to create bubbles). Let you feet soak for 5 minutes.
  2. Take out one foot at a time and massage with a rescue wash.  Lather well, and then place foot back in tub. Repeat with other foot.
  3. Take a pumice stone and work on your calluses usually occupying the heels and balls of your foot. Some might find the need to do this on their toes as well.
  4. Take out one foot at a time and massage with a salt scrub.  Feel free to be generous, and place foot back in tub once it lathers. Repeat with other foot.
  5. Once all the product is off your feet, step onto a dry towel. Dry your feet off.
  6. Moisturize your feet either with lotion or a gelee. If you are planning on going to bed, or walk around your house put socks on. The socks will lock in the moisture and will ensure you don’t leave footprints around your home.

Fun tip: Buy a small dish tub from a hardware store, and you can have a portable Foot Spa! Just place towel on the ground, your tub on top, and fill with the water temperature of your choice. Be careful not to spill. Throw some marbles in so you can massage the bottoms of your feet with little effort!

My Nightly Face Schedule

My nights are way different than my mornings. I often feel like the consistency of my mornings makeup, if not just totally press restart, for my unpredictable nights. I try my best to follow through, but often I am too tired to do my routine, let alone remember it. For all my early nights though, I love the luxury of being in the quiet bathroom washing away the day and preparing for a peaceful night of sleep.

Skin Type: Oily/Combination

Sensitive Skin? Yes. Lots of products give me rashes, so I have to be careful about what I put on or near my face.

Prone to acne? Not unless I sleep in my makeup or don’t shower right away following a sweaty workout.

If I am wearing eye make-up, I take it off using a reusable cotton pad and Arbonne’s Eye Makeup Remover.  I have a black towel to dry my face off with following  so I don’t stain any of my good ones.

I wet my face and neck, and then wash it with Arbonne’s FC5 Purifying Cleanser + Toner.    I wet a washcloth with warm water and wipe my face clean.

I follow this with  Arbonne’s Intelligence Nightly Resurfacing Pads. I gently sweep one pad over my clean, dry skin, in upward and outward motions. I usually do this to my neck and the tops of my hands as well. It is almost crazy how much dirt this step gets out of my skin, despite already having washed my skin thoroughly. You don’t realize how much smog NYC really has, until you take it right off of you.

I use Arbonne’s Hydrating Eye Creme for around my eyes. I apply it using only my 4th fingers since the skin around the eyes is so thin and sensitive. I swipe it not only underneath my eyes, but also on my brows, brow bone, and eyelids.

I finish my face off with Arbonne’s Moisturizing Night Creme. I massage this liberally on my skin using circular motions. The creme keeps my skin hydrated all night, but does not leave a weird residue on my pillow.

My Morning Face Schedule

Every morning starts off the same: alarm, protein shake, workout, shower, coffee, and then breakfast. Sometimes the hour I do these activities in the morning changes, but rarely the actual habits. My morning face routine is also the same way. Few days go by when I don’t follow through- and when that does happen, I feel like everything is a little off.

Skin Type: Oily/Combination

Sensitive Skin? Yes. Lots of products give me rashes, so I have to be careful about what I put on or near my face.

Prone to acne? Not unless I sleep in my makeup or don’t shower right away following a sweaty workout.

Usually in the shower, I wet my face and neck, and then wash it with Arbonne’s Purifying Cleanser + Toner. It is a nice pick-me-up in the morning because it smells like orange groves.  I wash it off using lukewarm water. If I wash my face at the sink, I wet a washcloth with warm water and wipe my face clean.

I follow this with 1-3 drops of Arbonne’s Intelligence Nourishing Facial Oil. I place one drop on my brow, and one drop each on my cheekbones. I sometimes feel like washes dry out my skin (I know its just clearing out the dirt) so this is always luxurious to put on after. My skin in more prone to drying out during the day, so I only place this on in the morning even though you can also use it before bed.

I use Arbonne’s Hydrating Eye Creme for around my eyes. I apply it using only my 4th fingers since the skin around the eyes is so thin and sensitive. I swipe it not only underneath my eyes, but also on my brows, brow bone, and eyelids.

I finish my face off with Arbonne’s Oil-Absorbing Day Lotion. I like it because it keeps my skin from getting oily during the day, but also offers me a layer of skin protection since it has 20 SPF. This is kind of my personal fun moment of the morning, since I am silly and draw with the lotion on my face before evenly spreading it out. Everyone needs to get joy in their own way.

After this, I either put on Arbonne’s Makeup Primer if I intend to put on “a full face,” or I head out this way with just mascara and lip balm.

Twice a Week: Masks are heaven sent. I switch between Arbonne’s Deep Cleansing Mask and Arbonne’s Sea Mud Face & Body Mask. The Deep Cleansing Mask is designed for Oily/Combination skin which is why I use it more often. I apply an even layer of mask onto my clean, damp skin and allow it to dry, up to 10 minutes. I gently remove it using a warm, wet towel and pat dry.  The Sea Mud Mask is more of a guilty pleasure that I partake in, if I have a bunch of free time and want a spa like experience. After cleansing, I apply the mask to my face and neck in a generous, even layer. I leave on for 10-15 minutes. I gently remove it using a warm, wet towel and pat dry.

Once a Week: I love exfoliating my skin. It feels like I have a whole new face, but I limit myself to once a week otherwise it is too much for my sensitive skin. I use Arbonne’s Exfoliating New Cell Scrub.  I apply on my moistened skin, using circular motions on forehead, cheeks, and nose for one minute, I rinse well, and pat my face dry with a washcloth. Afterwards, my face is usually rosy red and tingly from the cleaning (a normal reaction). I exfoliate early Sunday mornings.

Burt’s Bees Vs. Arbonne

I have been using Burt’s Bees Natural Lip Balm since high school. The flavors I use have changed over the years, but it has always been mostly the same.

Screen Shot 2016-10-03 at 12.55.40 PM.png

I was not sure I would like Arbonne’s Liquid Sunshine Lip Balm but I gave it a shot. And I was impressed.

Burts Bees- $3.50

Experience: Smooth going on. Sticky on lips. Residue disappeared about 45 minutes later.  Lips felt dry, and were a little rough to the touch especially around the edges. Initial smell and taste disappeared after initial application.

Perks: Ability to choose different tints and flavors. Low price. Can buy at most convenience stores.

Downside: Sticky. Dry lips. I felt like if I didn’t have it in my pocket I would be dissatisfied because I would feel like I had to reapply it multiple times for it to be effective in the long term.

Arbonne – $12.00 ($7.50 with consultant discount)

Experience: Smooth going on. Silky smooth on my lips. No residue, left lips feeling smooth to the touch. Coconut aftertaste for up to four hours. Lips did not feel dry or cracked later in the day.

Perks: Sunscreen protection.

Downside: Only one flavor and no tints. Little pricier, need to preplan to order with a bigger order otherwise shipping is horrendous.

Going Natural

For years I have always had overly sensitive skin. It must have started when I hit puberty and I have always had problem adjusting. Most makeups gave me acne and dry-skin, and overtime I stepped out of the shower, no matter what the temperature, I appeared to have a full body rash. Sometimes it would be so extreme that I would have an allergic eczema-like reaction over my arms and legs, and then other times if touched my neck absentmindedly  before washing my hands my skin would break out.

My aunt is an Arbonne consultant  and suggested I try some of their all natural beauty products. She has used Arbonne’s baby products for years on my cousin who has had many extreme allergies and now it trying to make most of her and her children’s lives natural. All the products are vegan and gluten free, which is a plus. I was a little hesitant at first because of the prices, but she always kept me in the know about sales and special deals so I finally relented and bought up some bathing basics.

Testing it out

Toothpaste (fluoride free) There is a reason that toothpastes have a warning label about not swallowing fluoride toothpastes. A real mint flavor the moment it enters your mouth, this cleans just as well as Crest or Colgate. The downside is there is no teeth whitening ingredients, which are bad for you anyway, so you actually are forced to watched your consumption of teeth staining foods and drinks. The aftertaste is a little weird because natural mint fades, but it is 100% cleaning effective.

Deodorant (aluminum-free, paraben-free) Why is that important? Despite the government suggesting that there are currently no know causes and effects between these two substances and decreased health, they do claim there are associations that require more extensive research. Feel free to look up research from other organization that explain how aluminum and paragon, both of which are commonly found in anti-perspirant deodorants, can  increase your chances of cancer, breast cancer, and alzheimers. What did I think about the product? It smells nice, goes on smooth, and doesn’t leave a white residue on my clothes.

I bought the full shower set because it was cheaper than buying individually, but will still talk about the products separately.

Body Cleanser  I had to stop using shower gels in middle school because they were so irritating, and I exclusively used Dove Soap Bars until I tried this. It smells great, is easy to apply to wash clothes and loofas, and a little bit goes a long way. Smells compliment the conditioner and shampoo.

Daily Shampoo  Gets the job done and  does not leave an oily residue in my hair that other shampoos do. Nice fresh smell during the shower and for a day following the shower.

Daily Conditioner I was a little disappointed by the size of the container since it appeared disproportionate to the amount of shampoo I received. I guess they believe less is more, or I have been using too much conditioner forever. One being used, I realized I barely needed any to condition all the hair on my scalp. My hair was amazingly silky and smooth after use.

I have been using these products since 2014 and I am very pleased. I saw results immediately in my skin and so far have little to no complaints about the products themselves. I am excited to start testing more of their products especially those in the Beauty department.
