Testing Blue Apron

P and I have come to realize how little time we actually have to accomplish tasks now that we are in New York. The city lifestyle is much more fast paced, and you either schedule your time to the minute or miss out.

P and I decided to try out Blue Apron this past week. The mission of Blue Apron is to make incredible home cooking accessible to everyone.

It is a meal kit that offers three different and unique meals a week, in two or four servings, for people to make in their own home. The kit is delivered weekly, and each meal per person is around $10. Not only are ingredients and recipes delivered to your door in cold storage, but there is no hassle when it comes to recycling, wine pairing (they do a wine service as well), and conveniency.

What was your favorite part about using this service?

I was able to cook multiple recipes without having to do research. I didn’t have to go out and buy a mass amount of ingredients to make the researched dish and then be fearful if the unused extra ingredients would go bad in the fridge.

The recipe cards were amazing. They have step-by-step instructions with pictures on how to prep and cook the meals. If you are inexperienced in the kitchen, they offer links to How-To videos (specific to the recipe) for food prep and other cooking skills. The kit also came with an info sheet about one of the ingredients in the kit that might not be too common in the average meal. This week I was sent information on Tomatillos, which were in the Pork Chops and Spicy Chow Chow with Sweet Potato Salad.

I like that they offer the option of two servings or four. If you are single, you can always store the extra meal in the freezer, or opt for the four meals for a growing family.

Downside?

You have to sort between the items that can be kept in the pantry and items that can be kept in the fridge. Each ingredient also does not come labeled with what meal it is to be used for. It was a bit of a search and find.
